Mark 'The Bird' Fidrych Birthday Bash invades Corktown Aug. 16

Former Tigers and other special guests to celebrate the life of baseball's most lovable loon.

Join former Detroit Tigers Dave Rozema and Ike Blessitt, along with the Navin Field Grounds Crew and other special guests, to celebrate the life and times of Tigers great Mark “The Bird” Fidrych.

Bird Bash takes place Saturday, August 16, at 7 p.m. at Nemo’s Bar & Grill.

Mark Fidrych, one of the most beloved Detroit Tigers of all time, captivated a nation with his wacky antics and phenomenal pitching in the bicentennial summer of ’76, talking to the ball all summer long, earning a start in the All-Star game, and winning the American League Rookie of the Year.

The Bird not only graced the cover of Sports Illustrated, he even landed on the cover of Rolling Stone. ALl summer long, Fidrych revealed himself to be not just a great pitcher, but a genuine American character, bringing innocence, spontaneity, and unadulterated joy to baseball. He quickly became a household name and a cultural phenomenon.

Although The Bird left us tragically in 2009 at the age of 54, his spirit lives on in the hearts of baseball fans everywhere. For one magical summer, Mark Fidrych ruled the roost at Michigan & Trumbull and left an indelible mark on America. And outside of his hometown of Northborough, Massachusetts, nowhere is he more beloved than he is in Detroit.

Join us Saturday, August 16 at Nemo's, in the shadow of old Tiger Stadium, as we celebrate the birth of The Bird.

Nemo's will have plenty of ice-cold beer, great Nemo's burgers, and the classic 1976 Tigers-Yankees Monday Night Baseball game on TV. The Tigers-Mariners game will also be broadcast live throughout the bar.

Special guests for this year's Bird Bash include acclaimed authors Dan Epstein (Stars & Strikes), Bill Morris (Motor City Burning), and Dennis Clotworthy (Al Kaline’s Last Bat Boy), plus actor and Detroit native John Hawkinson, of HBO’s The Newsroomand more!
